Tamarind Tree Restaurant Review: Leave the International District strip mall behind and enter a room with tropical-colored walls, romantic lighting, and contemporary décor. Enjoy a guava or roasted chili martini at a granite-topped table or --- weather permitting --- relax on the patio adorned with lush greenery. While the 25-plus-page menu may be daunting, it’s filled with a wide range of flavors. Appetizers run from classic spring rolls to grilled pork meatballs. Salad options feature a selection with fresh fruit. For main dishes, we recommend the tumeric-seasoned catfish served with a shrimp pasta sauce. The huge selection of rice dishes combine ingredients such as short ribs with herbed fish sauce or a mix of seafood topped with mint green onions. For the indecisive eater, the “seven courses of beef” may appeal; bargain-priced and easily shared by two, it's a good date dish. Do not overlook the generous scoop of homemade taro root ice cream for dessert. Various beers and wines are available, as is a full bar.
