Tamarind Tree Restaurant Review: Romantic lighting, white tablecloths and professional service distinguish Tamarind Tree from the plethora of the International District's nearby Vietnamese restaurants. Enjoy a guava or roasted chili martini at a granite-topped table or, weather permitting, relax on the umbrella-shaded patio adorned with lush greenery. While the 25-plus-page menu may be daunting, it's filled with a wide range of flavors. Appetizers run from classic spring rolls to grilled pork meatballs. Salad options feature a selection with fresh fruit. For main dishes, we recommend the turmeric-seasoned catfish served with a shrimp paste sauce. Rice dishes combine ingredients such as short ribs with herbed fish sauce or a mix of seafood topped with mint green onions. For the indecisive eater, the "seven courses of beef" may appeal; bargain-priced and easily shared by two, it's a good date dish. Do not overlook the generous scoop of homemade taro root ice cream for dessert. Various beers and wines are available, as is a full bar.
