Tanioka's Restaurant Review: Tanioka’s has been around since 1978, drawing locals “in the know” to central Oahu for some of the best poke on the island. One of the top sellers is the ahi limu poke, an original variety created decades ago for the shop by a local woman. Other poke favorites include alae (red salt) poke, crab poke and sesame tako (octopus) poke. There is also a dried poke that tastes like, as described by the owners, salty candy. Plate lunches are available daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include favorites such as furikake ahi and mochiko chicken along with a monthly special, such as pulu masima (corned beef laulau). Japanese rice balls (musubi), fried chicken and fried noodles are served as well.
