THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Tapas by Alex Stratta Restaurant Review:
This 5,401-square-foot concept set in the space formerly occupied by Poppy Den has an expansive patio with heaters and misters, making it possible to accommodate al fresco dining year-round. A Spanish flair is evident in a rustic and rich yellow color palette with red and white accents, wrought-iron fixtures, dark wood and light sandstone. The menu has chef Alex Stratta’s interpretation of Spanish dishes as well as traditional ones. Begin with kale fritter enhanced with slivers of green apple and a cherry-pine nut chutney; or grilled curry lamb chops with relish and mint-almond yogurt. Seafood lovers will be pleased with a selection that includes charred Spanish octopus, rock shrimp, baked littleneck clams and calamari. Stratta shines with his paella, each of which serves up to four, in varieties of artichoke with roasted peppers and aged manchego; Valenciana with rabbit, snails and broad beans; mixta with calamari, chicken, shellfish and chorizo; and lobster and shrimp. Complementing the Spanish fare is house-made red and white sangría, and Spanish-sourced wine selections. Finish with chocolate-almond cake with sweet sherry and cajeta made from goat’s milk.
