| Every beach town has one: the locals’ favorite burger joint, a casual haven of good eats and greasy fingers and a line out the door, a place where “gourmet” toppings refer to roasted Ortega chiles rather than foie gras. In the coastal community of Summerland it’s all about Tinkers. You’ll still find curly fries and milkshakes at this seaside throwback to simpler times. Locally owned and operated (mainly by high school kids), the humble eatery isn’t much more than a counter, a scanty kitchen and a couple of tables. Yes, seating can be an issue. Consider walking your deep-fried and griddle-cooked goodies a few hundred yards to Lookout Park, where picnic tables are perched on a green lawn at the edge of the sea. |
