Trattoria di Umberto Restaurant Review: This rustic Northern Italian restaurant is the ubiquitous Umberto Menghi's answer to casual dining in Whistler (he also owns Il Caminetto di Umberto). Two large, romantically lit dining rooms are separated by a massive open kitchen. Authentic Italian hospitality provided by manager Walter Wallgram and his professional team add to the congeniality that keeps locals and celebs alike coming back. Classic Tuscan starters such as beef carpaccio topped with shaved Parmesan or a hearty Tuscan bean soup warm both heart and soul. No trattoria can exist without pasta and risotto dishes; here, our favorites include chicken-stuffed tortellini oozing creamy Alfredo sauce, or penne and Italian sausage ragù---just two examples of Umberto’s Italian comfort food. A solid wine list---order a bottle of Bambolo, Umberto’s private label---and desserts that shine, particularly the boozy tiramisu, the best you'll taste in Whistler, round out the dining experience.
