Udipi Cafe Restaurant Review: Udipi Cafe specializes in South Indian-style vegetarian fare, which is largely made without dairy products. Specialties are the dosai (thin crêpe-like pancakes), thali (compartmentalized assortments of dishes) and uthappam (thick pancakes with ingredients cooked into the batter --- think Indian pizza). One section of the menu is devoted to chaat, or street snacks, such as samosas. End the meal with gulab jamun, a type of fritter laced with syrup. No alcohol is served, but you may bring your own, and for most Indian dishes (provided they’re not too hot) a Riesling Spätlese, Gewürztraminer, off-dry rosé or fruit-forward red wine with soft tannins will do the trick. Otherwise, opt for tea or mango juice. Try a mango lassi for an authentic and tasty experience that nicely complements the spices. Note that the restaurant has changed ownership and management.
