Van Loc Restaurant Review: Van Loc is nothing fancy, but the decent and reasonably priced Vietnamese food has made it a standby for Houstonians. There are plenty of vegetarian options --- we like the garlicky fried tofu --- on the extensive menu, which includes notable pho and pretty good vermicelli selections. Our go-to dish is the spicy ga xao lan, a chicken curry in a coconut sauce studded with peanuts. But consider the clay pot specials, too, especially the seafood one simmered in fish sauce. If you're hankering for a cocktail, you'll need to look elsewhere, because the restaurant only serves beer and wine.
