For tapas and wine tasting, few Atlanta places beat Vino!, whose name incorporates the exuberance of the exclamation mark to make a point. Finally moving sherry to the aperitif list, Vino! stood out from those restaurateurs who list sherries, whether sweet or dry, on the dessert list. The tapas concept here goes beyond the traditional Spanish tasting dishes, to include such items as a strudel of Gorgonzola cheese, apples and pecans, although sometimes the fillings may vary; chorizo cooked in wine and served with roasted peppers; and tortilla española (the classic Spanish potato omelet). One can make a meal off the tapas or stay for dinner and enjoy roast lamb or paella. Although the entire regular wine list also is available by the glass, there’s an extensive cellar list sold by the bottle. For a fun time, combine the little dishes with a flight of wines. Three one-ounce pours allow you to explore wine varieties you might find unfamiliar. Thus, a flight of Zinfandels or of unusual white wines, costing just $8.50, lets the vino initiate sample some new taste treats.
