WaterCourse Foods Restaurant Review: Organic-inclined herbivores commune over buckwheat pancakes, tofu, tempeh and seitan at this campy Uptown health food hangout. The light and airy dining room, flanked by walls of windows, also boasts a perpetually packed counter overseen by a groovy, easygoing staff. The completely vegetarian-vegan menu is fresh, vibrant and chock-full of tasty dishes including egg or tofu scrambles studded with vegetables, house-made biscuits and mushroom gravy, banana bread french toast draped with maple syrup, and organic oatmeal sprinkled with brown sugar and berries. For lunch, order the sampler pesto plate paired with pita bread or the tempeh burger topped with caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms and your choice of sauces, including barbecue or teriyaki. We also like the Greek-inspired "Jimmy" wrap, a warm tortilla stuffed with hummus, bright greens, vegetables, kalamata olives and feta. For dinner, the country-fried seitan "steak," Thai peanut stir-fry or penne pasta tossed with portobello mushrooms, artichoke hearts and Brie are popular choices. |
