 Wickets Bistro Restaurant Review: The elegant cuisine of chef Cal Stamenov shines through at Wickets Bistro, though the setting is more casual than the epic production orchestrated at the Bernardus Lodge's signature restaurant Marinus. This small European-style bistro offers guests a comfortable place for all-day dining, either inside or near the fireplace out on the terrace just off the croquet court. Start with Beau Soleil oysters with ginger-shallot vinaigrette or sample from the charcuterie plate of salami, galantine, prosciutto and paté. The menu changes daily but may feature items like brick-oven pizzas, grilled Pacific swordfish, and flat-iron steak with wild mushrooms, red wine butter and marble potatoes. Even the hamburger --- made with only the best naturally raised Angus beef --- is above average. Many of the dishes feature organic produce from the lodge's own garden, and special care is taken to support local farmers and fishermen. |
