WP Kitchen + Bar is Wolfgang Puck’s latest concept to make its way to the desert. Located on fashionable El Paseo, the restaurant offers globally-influenced fare served mostly family style. The menu features an array of small plates, fresh salads, signature pizzas and handmade pastas, plus seafood, steak and other meaty offerings. For starters, the lobster and shrimp roll with apple dill and sweet curry is a nice interlude to what is to come. Puck built a reputation on “designer” pizzas back in the 1980s, so it’s best to try one of those next --- the most expensive is priced at $32 and includes caviar, but most hover around the $15 range. The insalata pizza with pesto, greens and burrata leaves the palate feeling clean. Paying homage to his European roots is the pork schnitzel with whole-grain mustard sauce, baby arugula and shaved Parmesan. It’s elegantly presented and filling, but not overly heavy. The vanilla or chocolate crème brûlée with fresh berries hits the spot for dessert. A full bar with a nice selection of wine and beer round out a satisfying dining experience.
