XL Grindhouse Restaurant Review: Brothers Robert and James DeLeon decided to go big with everything when they opened XL Grindhouse, beginning with the burgers. If you’re not up for the XL Grindhouse Challenge---that’s ten or more charred patties between two buns---there are plenty of alternatives. The appropriately-named 2AM burger is a blend of juicy and savory: the burger is topped with a breakfast sausage patty, trio of bacon slices, cheddar and Monterey jack cheeses and a fried egg, all between a traditional ham roll. There’s also the mountainous Juicy Lucy: a slice of melted American cheese plopped between two beef patties and then packed between two grilled cheese sandwiches. The Salinas spot prides itself as being the only place in the area to serve 60-ounce beers, and there are 19 varieties of ale on tap and 17 available by the bottle. |
