Opus Hotel Vancouver - Hotel Review

Bold and Boutiquey in Vancouver's Yaletown Neighborhood

Inventive design with luxury in mind at Opus hotel in Vancouver, Canada
Inventive design with luxury in mind

High fashion lives in Vancouver's Yaletown District in the form of a luxury hotel. Opus Hotel Vancouver prides itself on having five different décor schemes to accommodate the many personalities who occupy its 96 guest rooms and suites. The firm that designed the building, Architectura, envisioned five distinct characters for the hotel and created each room design to suit these fictional figures. The results are styles that range from "modern & minimalist" to "artful & eclectic." Whatever room you end up in is likely to please. We especially like the suites, whose retro-pop style brings to mind Warhol's 1960s heyday.

Each room and suite features a luxurious, unique bathroom; multi-line and cordless phones with private voice mail and data ports; 27-inch, color TVs; high-speed Internet connection and twice-daily maid service. Certain rooms and suites feature fireplaces, wraparound balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows.

On-site services include one-day laundry and dry-cleaning, currency exchange and in-suite massage and spa services, as well as the more notable complimentary BMW 7 series car service and a lifestyle concierge. Meeting planners can organize intimate, exclusive gatherings in the 1,000 square feet of function space and 14-person board-screening room.

Thriving Vancouver offers more than enough to keep a visitor occupied, but Opus competes for attention with a fitness room, 24-hour room service, CDs and CD player available through guest services, and most significantly, One Hundred Days restaurant, which features the talent of local graffiti artist Vince Dumoulin. The restaurant is Dumoulin’s work in progress, from which the menu takes its cues.

Those who don't even pretend to be hungry gather in the Opus Bar, whose redesign showcases mod shades of pink and lavender, to create a “La Dolce Vita” mood. Taking this generation’s voyeuristic tendencies to the limit, video monitors above the restroom sinks allow guests to keep track of the lounge's activity.

It's a given that a hotel like this one, which oozes style from every pore, will attract a high-end clientele. If you can put up with celebrities and corporate moguls, comfort can be found in this hotel. If you relish the company of such types, you will find much more than just comfort in the Opus experience.
