June 7 El Bizcocho, the old-world fine dining haven at Rancho Bernardo Inn, will host a special "Epilogue" dinner in honor of its upcoming closing. Former El Bizcocho chef Gavin Kaysen (Cafe Boulud in NYC) will join the restaurant Tom Dowling and chef Nicolas Bour in preparing the five-course menu. June 10 Benefit Camp Oliver and the Charities of the Social Service Auxiliary by attending the Wine & Roses Charity Wine Tasting & Sale, a summer festival in San Diego, California. July 17 After the success of their “dueling” foie gras dinner, Bice Ristorante’s second Dueling Chef Dinner will feature rabbit as the secret ingredient. Milano chefs Mario Cassineri (Bice Ristorante) and Chef Stefano Ceresoli (Solare) will battle, presenting dishes side-by-side for a live audience. Eight courses will be presented, each dish with rabbit. Guests also have an option to pair with Batasiolo wines. Ongoing Set in the lovely grounds of Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa, Mustangs & Burros has a new happy hour. Chef Timothy Ralphs has created a lively and fun menu with exciting edibles and potables. Each weekday celebrates different food and beers, from handcraft brews with fresh ceviche to mule drinks with ginger beer paired with real-deal TJ hotdogs. Thursday means street tacos with Tecate; Fridays are pitcher specials with platters of Cal-Mex eats. Most beers and nibbles run $5. Wednesday through Sunday Carruth Cellars has opened on Cedros Avenue in Solana Beach. This boutique urban winery handcrafts artisan wines from select grapes from the Russian River Valley and California Coast. First & Third Thursdays In addition to serving innovative cuisine and the city’s only $300 margarita, El Vitral Mexican Cuisine and Tequila Lounge, located downtown in the East Village near PETCO Park, is now offering a Tequila 101 course, the first and third Thursday of the month. With more than 250 tequilas to choose from and a staff of agave connoisseurs behind the bar, El Vitral is the spot to study the differences between a blanco, anejo and reposado. In addition to the informative class, students receive a flight of three tequilas to taste, and a three-course meal paired with Mexico’s national spirit. The cost is $30 per person.
