A Cocktail For A Kiss | Mijenta Tequila Blanco

By Sophie Gayot

In 2020, three passionate friends launched for their first tequila. In September came the “Blanco,” followed by the “Reposado” in December. To honor the involvement of all, they called it Mijenta Tequila, a variation of “mi gente” (my people).

Backed by ex-Bacardi CEO Mike Dolan, developed by Ana Maria Romero Mena, one of the first Official Catadores of Tequila, and co-founded by Juan Coronado, an 18-year veteran in the food and beverage industry, Mijenta Tequila wanted to add something to the already very busy tequila production and market. So, the team decided to go artisanal, producing small batches, using only certified Blue Weber Agave from the highlands of Jalisco, a region renowned for its rich red soils and microclimate. The “jimadores” only harvest strong and mature agave from fields where no pesticides are utilized.

I got to sit down with Juan Coronado, who is also a mixologist. He prepared a loving cocktail he had created, Bésame Mucho. Watch Coronado making it.
