Very Stylish Outdoor Dining | Porta Via, Calabasas, CA

By Sophie Gayot

The co-founders of Porta Via Calabasas, Peter Garland and Ryan Hill, had a vision for the third location of Porta Via. They wanted to take advantage of the clement Southern California weather and devote most of the surface area of the restaurant to outdoor dining. I don’t know if the pair has a psychic gift but considering the current health situation, they were so right!

With the talent of designer and artistic director Sophie Goineau, they created a beautiful spot. Elegant and unique, it makes you feel that you have traveled to one of those upscale resorts (think Careyes or St. Barths). Even if right now you cannot be at the bar (and I have to admit it is so tempting), sitting at one of the two patios is most likely something you will want to do more than one time.

Continuing with the spirit of the original Beverly Hills location, opened in 1995, the cuisine is classic California with a bistro twist. There is nothing fancy and fussy. It is more on the casual side, making it a friendly time around the table.

The wine program is helmed by Jeff Morgenthal. He will be happy to come to your table and tell you stories about the wines and their producers. Most of them are sustainably and organically farmed, and offered by the glass, with many affordable selections. There is also an emphasis on the cocktail program.
