With live music and an impressive list of margaritas and craft brews, Blue Mermaid is a favorite of locals and those wandering out of the three hotels that grew around the historic restaurant building. Caribbean dishes are on tap, scarcely seen in New England, using ingredients from local waters and land. Try the house-made salsa and chips then go on to ginger soy and brown sugar marinated grilled flank steak skewers, or punchy wasabi rangoon. The Jamaican jerk chicken has a touch of hot and sweet with a bright mango salsa. Alternatively, try something from the wood grill, perhaps the mahi mahi with a yellow pepper mole sauce and a side of plantain fritters. Dessert keeps an island theme with banana brûlée or chocolate cake with coconut sauce.
