Tsujita Sushi Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant & décor: Tsujita LA owner Takehiro Tsujita partnered with veteran sushi chef Shigeru Kato on Tsujita Sushi on Sawtelle Boulevard to expand his restaurant empire. The noodle shop chain is ever present in Japan and all the way to New Jersey, but Los Angeles was chosen to anchor the gourmet edition. Contemporary design details are thoughtfully planned in the look and feel of the restaurant. Bamboo shoots and mirrors on the walls are laid out in geometric patterns. Booth seating is available, or opt for the sushi bar or a table, both featuring sturdy wood chairs that were custom made for the restaurant. A marble backsplash reaches to the high ceiling of the exposed kitchen. The outdoor waiting lounge is dominated by a massive crystal chandelier. Serving pieces coming from Japan are all unique to each dish arriving to the table.

Food & Drinks: Expect upscale classic Japanese omakase, with Edomae-style sushi, along with saké, Japanese beers and a limited wine list. (At lunch, chirashi and omakase are offered, and at dinner there are à la carte selections, chirashi and omakase priced at $120, $150 and $200.) In most cases, fish is shipped in from Japan, many types that the sushi novice has never heard of. A piece of skipjack was left raw but delicately smoked to complement the natural flavor of the fish. The no-fuss service is efficient.
