THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Yamato Restaurant Review:
Yamato (the former name of Japan) is a mix of Japanese and American influences. Located in the heart of Westwood, in an historic 1929 building that was originally a bank, the space has kept its grandeur and boasts a 50-foot-high vaulted ceiling and elegant beige tones. Many seating options are available, such as large booths around a marble obelisk, a banquette beside a colorful illuminated wall of saké bottles, an outdoor patio, a sushi bar, and private rooms on the ground floor, while a mezzanine level offers views of the action below. The sushi is both fresh and affordable, with several varieties of fish available. Continue with tofu salad, monkfish liver, pork belly slowly simmered with mirin and soy, assorted tempura or stir-fried lotus root from the long list of appetizers. A traditional entrée of chicken teriyaki is accompanied by roasted Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. Desserts include banana bread pudding, molten chocolate cake and a ginger crème brûlée. Pair your meal with a choice from the large selection of sakés. Enjoy happy hour specials from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. daily.
