Bar Masa Restaurant Review:

Bar Masa sits on the other side of the wall from the ten-seat restaurant Masa. It’s somewhat of a misleading name though. Although you can drink signature cocktails and saké at the bar, the principle reason to come to this relatively small space is to eat sushi and Japanese food of excellent quality at some remarkably modest prices. The walls are made from chiseled Japanese Oya limestone and the bar one single piece of exotic polished wood. What distinguishes Bar Masa is that across the menu, each preparation is done with equal finesse --- fried seafood and vegetables are impeccably crisp and greaseless, rice dishes are not smothered with sauces, and the sushi and sashimi are velvety and pristine. Some of the best items are the udon noodle dishes, including a Kobe beef yaki soba. Even the desserts are inventive and simply good.
