Blowfish Sushi to Die For Restaurant Review: The DJ booth sits idle by day and most evenings, but the music, which increases into the night, along with video screens playing Speed Racer and Japanese manga, and anime illustrations on the cocktail menu create a Japanese club-like atmosphere any evening. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights around 11 p.m. the tables are cleared out, the sushi bar is converted to a well bar and music and dancing take over. Fusion-style Japanese cuisine, from sushi to rolls, delivers a solid dining experience, and small plates and vegetarian offerings allow for lighter snacking with cocktails. Oyster shooters are tasty and appropriate for the club-like atmosphere; for dessert, the "chocoholic" is our choice with its chocolate crème brûlée and additional goodies. Note: Though Blowfish has always been notable for offering true blowfish --- or fugu --- as a dangerous and pricey dining experience (with advance notice and the expertise of a certified fugu chef) that dish isn't really the focus here. Also located in San Francisco. |
