Blowfish Sushi to Die For Restaurant Review: The DJ booth sits idle by day and most evenings, but the music, which increases into the night, a speckling of video screens playing Speed Racer and Japanese manga, and anime illustrations on the cocktail menu create a Japanese club-like atmosphere any evening. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights around 11 p.m. the tables are cleared out, the sushi bar is converted to a well bar and music and dancing takes over. Fusion-style Japanese cuisine, from sushi to rolls, delivers a solid dining experience, and small plates and vegetarian offerings allow a lighter repast. Ostrich Portobello is a highlight, with grilled ostrich on a bed of tempura portobello. Oyster shooters are tasty and appropriate for the club-like atmosphere; and for dessert, the Chocoholic is our choice with its chocolate crème brûlée and some additional goodies. Blowfish also offers true blowfish --- or fugu --- on the menu seasonally and with a limited availability. Fugu, particularly its liver, can be lethal if not prepared correctly so reservations are required 48 hours in advance to assure a certified chef is on hand. Fugu pricing starts at $280 for two guests. |
