Is Bombay Cricket Club a restaurant or sports bar? Despite the huge flat-screen TV broadcasting cricket matches visible from both floors, the care and attention given to the Indian dishes served here puts it clearly in the restaurant category. Begin with a vividly-hued mango margarita, and then progress to the naan, almost a meal in itself, and best stuffed with potato and cheese. All curries are first-rate with adjustable heat. Also worth ordering are the spinach-packed shrimp saag, butter chicken, dals, and any of the coconut curries (try scooping up the sauce with wedges of naan). The restaurant's tandoor oven performs admirably, and the lamb, chicken and fish emerge a charred, lusty orange color but never dry. Cardamom adds a gentle perfume to the basmati rice. There's also a perplexing yet tasty array of Middle Eastern dishes such as lemony fattoush salad, mezze platters and grape leaves. A full bar and a sizable wine list promise something for everyone.
