Delux Cafe Restaurant Review:
Halfway to trendy Tremont Street from the bustling Back Bay, the Delux Café is the ultimate hip hideaway for inexpensive eats. Bike couriers, fashionistas, brokers and artists converge --- no group goes unrepresented --- in this tiny spot decorated with old album covers, a shrine to Elvis and Christmas lights year round. Meanwhile, the menu is eclectic, not eccentric: pork quesadillas and gourmet sandwiches, a little Mediterranean here and a little Middle Eastern there, with the occasional vegetable pie or strudel thrown in for good measure. Pizzas and a bowl of spicy chili are also available. Properly poured brews and tabs that demand delighted double-takes (can this really be the pricey South End?) round out the cool and comfortable experience. To top it off, take a nostalgia trip via the bathroom wallpaper --- you’ll see what we mean. And don’t forget to bring cash. They don’t accept credit cards.
