Husband-and-wife owners are a dynamic duo (she's a pastry chef, he's a wine connoisseur), but they claim the name refers to the pairing of great food and wine. In either case, this neighborhood bistro is a beauty with its clean lines, dramatic lighting and glass-enclosed wine display of over six hundred selections. Wine is taken very seriously here, with various distinguished and distinctive vineyards represented and many intriguing offerings by the glass. Food might be called New American Bistro, a sensible menu of moderately-priced soups, carpaccios, pastas, thin-crust pizzas and well-prepared entrées. Choose from filet of sole en croute, double-cut pork chops with grilled pineapple and ancho chile-apricot glaze, or slow-cooked lamb shanks---all are deftly done. In light of the owners' pastry background, it's no surprise that desserts here are a high point---especially the espresso truffle torte with chocolate mousse and pear tart.
