FIG Restaurant Review: FIG, the restaurant in Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows, is named after the Moreton Bay fig tree that is the centerpiece of the beautiful courtyard at the hotel's entrance. The space encompasses several different areas, including a private room, pewter bar and a dining room with sliding doors that open up to the terrace (with a few desirable tables) and the pool and gardens just beyond. Start off with charcuterie --- the pork rillettes are a point of pride --- or a sampler from "Eric's Stash," the name given to the selection of global cheeses curated by fromager Eric Brazel. Overseeing the kitchen is executive chef Jason Prendergast. The Mediterranean-influenced menu incorporates locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Carrots might take center stage in a salad combining raw and cooked preparations. Other starters could include charred octopus with cranberry beans, caper berries, sherry vinegar and mint. Move on to whole fried sea bream or grass-fed lamb shank served on a bed of Moroccan couscous. For dessert, patrons may encounter an almond clafouti or a chocolate-covered peanut butter bar with a playful topping of popcorn. Beverage-wise, there's an interesting wine list, along with local beers on draft and classic and original cocktails. |
