Formento's Restaurant Review

: Formento's interior boasts exposed brick that meets elegant wood trim and a floral centerpiece. The cavernous West Loop restaurant is divided into smaller sections (including several private dining rooms of varying sizes upstairs) to create a more intimate feel. Burgundy leather banquettes are so comfortable, you'll be tempted to linger after your meal. The kitchen lightens up the menu with coastal Southern Italian fare. Among the seafood dishes, wood-grilled oysters, tuna conserva and spaghetti bottarga are just a few of the highlights. Charred snap peas are a sweet, refreshing side to complement a glass of rosé while people-watching on the expansive Randolph Street patio. Old menu favorites like Nonna’s meatballs with al dente house-made canestri and pork neck gravy and the chocolate cake are present. Knowledgeable sommeliers will guide you through the lengthy leather-bound wine list, which includes a number of Italian gems. At Nonna’s sandwich and sundries shop next door, choose from gelato cookie sandwiches to satisfy the sweet tooth.
