THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Frank's Americana Revival Restaurant Review:
Frank’s Americana Revival, in the heart of River Oaks, provides a comfortable wood-paneled dining room where guests run the gamut from neighborhood retirees to energy moguls and ladies who lunch. The horseshoe shaped White Star Bar gets crowded during afternoon happy hours when classic martinis vie with the short rib sliders. The menu features a gumbo of the day, always spicy, along with salads the size of gardens --- a fine choice in the summer when fresh tomatoes from Atkinson Farm are onsite --- and the famous chicken fried steak. There are a few pasta dishes available as well as Gulf Coast shrimp, but this is really a meat lover’s destination: big, thick steaks and chops and a buttermilk fried chicken that is every bit as crunchy as mom’s. Regulars know Frank’s is the place for take-out Thanksgiving feasts and that during rodeo season there’s a functioning chuck wagon in the parking lot serving up real cowboy food. Consider the cornmeal biscuit fruit cobbler for dessert. The wine list includes the Duchman Family Winery’s Vermentino, considered one of the best among Texas whites.
