As the only Indian restaurant in the area, Himalayan Restaurant in Big Bear Lake offers tourists and locals an ethnic dining choice. The simple storefront restaurant, in the heart of the Village, also offers accessible Nepalese along with North Indian food. The two comfortable dining rooms are decorated with art from the region; an adjoining store filled with similar crafts and fashion is fun to browse. The menu features many vegetarian dishes including starters like samosas and momo (steamed dumplings), although the latter are also served with chicken. Vegetarian entrées include daal, korma and palak paneer. Carnivores should try the generous mixed grill as an introduction to the cuisine, which includes chicken from the tandoor clay oven as well as tender, marinated lamb; there is also an assortment of curry, masala, vindaloo and thali dishes served family-style that the friendly staff can explain and spice to your liking. Wine and Indian and domestic beers are available; the short dessert list includes tasty gulab jamun (small dough balls), but the less adventurous can opt for ice cream.
