Huckleberry Café & Bakery Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant: The owners of Rustic Canyon Wine Bar & Seasonal Kitchen, Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan (also the executive pastry chef), got married and for their first offspring produced this vibrant (and noisy) café and bakery. The food is simple and easy, and made with seasonal products from the farmers market, at least when it comes to the salads and daily soups.

Food & Drinks: Choose from the selections on the blackboard menu, order at the counter, and a server will bring the food to your table, where silverware is stored with napkins in a big white jar. Try the roasted free-range chicken sandwich with cheddar and aïoli on multigrain bread, or the warm turkey meatball sandwich or burrata and spicy marinated peppers, both on ciabatta. Salads have a “made at home” taste and look---which makes them even better. If you can’t decide between the chopped romaine, the celery and endive or the mixed greens, opt for the trio plate which comes in three sizes. If you come hungry, the rotisserie offers more robust items like Jidori chicken or duck. A small selection of bottled beers and wines by the glass is available. Though Zoe is a pastry chef, she considers herself more of a baker. So you will find twenty-plus varieties of her tasty, rustic pastries, but also her own breads, baked on the premises. Of the six different types, all good, there is a clear winner: the sourdough country boule, one of the best breads we’ve tasted. Breakfast is served all day. Pancakes are a must. The other good news: all of this can be taken home.
