THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Johnny D's Uptown Restaurant Review:
An impressive line-up of live music acts --- jazz, blues, folk and more --- maintains this Davis Square nightclub's reputation as a prime-time player. But between the rootsy tunes, there's a whole lotta chowin' going on. While the dinner menu makes New American twists and turns with dishes like arugula flatbread, Cincinnati turkey chili with red beans and citrus Buffalo chicken tenders, the weekend brunch keeps it square with down-home Southern-style cooking. We prefer our fried catfish and eggs, Southern grits with butter and grilled ham and eggs served with a side of live zydeco. As for dinner, pair a cold pitcher of beer with some basic nachos or Parmesan polenta fries paired with marinara to start. Hearty portobello mushroom stroganoff with soft egg noodles or the blackened Cajun catfish are good main dishes. Desserts are limited to just three: tiramisu, chocolate chip bread pudding and a warm chocolate lava cake. Many opt to order another pint to enjoy with the live music.
