THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Kal's Bistro Restaurant Review:
Kal’s Bistro offers a menu that incorporates the flavors of Greece, the Middle East and the Mediterranean, presented with California flair in the heart of Old Pasadena. The clubby storefront dining room is sheathed in mahogany, complete with a hand-carved coffered ceiling, leaded glass and vintage-style chandeliers. Tucked into the rear of the narrow space is a full bar. A nicely prepared Scottish salmon arrives with saffron rice, and the chicken Milanese is particularly juicy, thanks to the use of thighs instead of the usual breast. Burgers are available, including a lamb burger with tzatziki, while a lamb lule kebab reinforces the Mediterranean theme. For dessert, there’s a wide selection of house-made ice creams (e.g. mint-orange blossom, cinnamon-honey, strawberry-habanero) as well as olive oil cake and an ultra-rich chocolate-espresso bar. A global wine list, with some interesting bottles priced in the $20 to $30 range, is provided, as is a selection of craft beers.
