THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED La Cubana Restaurant Review:
This family-operated Cuban restaurant is a Glendale institution. Walls are lined with handsomely framed mirrors and vintage photos of the home country, while a sea of white linen-topped tables accommodate patrons craving traditional cuisine. All the favorites --- ropa vieja, lechón asado (roasted pork) and a nicely crusted bistec empanizado (Milanese-style pounded steak) --- are offered with traditional sides of plantains, Moros y Cristianos (black beans and rice) and garlicky yuca. This is heavy, hearty fare that draws those seeking plentiful portions at relatively modest prices. For lunch, the super-size medianoche (a pressed sandwich of ham, roasted pork and pickles on an egg roll), always a La Cubana specialty, is easily enough to share. Dulce de leche flan makes for a memorable dessert, and traditional beverages include Ironbeer (a Cuban soft drink resembling Dr. Pepper) or batidos (blended exotic fruit shakes).
