Even morning grumps wake up cheery for the comforting and fresh Mexican breakfasts served at this tiny downtown café that has been attracting politicians, musicians and office workers for almost a quarter of a century. Besides the fluffy migas and famed huevos con chorizo, the black beans are soulful, the coffee is strong and the spicy salsa is sinus-clearing. We love the moist vegetarian tamale topped with a rich cheese sauce, washed down with freshly squeezed aguas frescas in any conceivable flavor. Other quick but carefully prepared lunch options include crispy chicken-stuffed flautas sided with smoky refried beans and the poblano chile relleno stuffed with corn and mushrooms. Still hungry?
