THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED When Southern food is done right, it’s sweet as a Georgia peach. At the corner of 82nd St. and Columbus Ave., the dark mahogany-trimmed bistro-like interior seems a world away from swirling fans and steamy South nights. Fans of Southern cuisine will recognize flaky biscuits (albeit minus the gravy), buttery cheese grits and braised (a bit healthier than fried) greens while connoisseurs---true Southerners---will notice some “citified” influences and the myriad assortment of specialties found below the Mason-Dixon line. In addition to the above, the menu also features a roasted apple and butternut squash soup, Johnny Cake (cornbread) with smoked salmon and crème fraîche, low country jambalaya and hot Carolina shrimp. Brunch offerings include tasty lemony pancakes with vanilla maple syrup, fluffy egg frittatas, or fruit and sugar-topped French toast. The service can be a bit lackluster, so prepare to linger---try sipping a “rhum cure” specialty from the fully-stocked bar.
