Madera Restaurant Review

: Madera is located on the posh, stately grounds of Rosewood Sand Hill. The area, Sand Hill Road in particular, is known for its venture capitalist companies and association with Silicon Valley. The menu is crafted around carefully sourced local ingredients. (Former executive chef Peter Rudolph has left the restaurant, and Reylon Agustin now holds the position.) At lunch, start off with a salad of Bibb lettuce, radish, Humboldt Fog goat cheese and Champagne vinaigrette, or with caviar, crème fraîche and tater tots. Seasonal vegetables star in main dishes such as Alaskan halibut with brandade, fennel, spring peas and green garlic beurre monté. Outside the eco-chic dining room with its bustling display kitchen, the Stanford foothills offer a suitably pastoral view --- perfect for lingering over with a dessert. The sweet selections continue the thread of featuring nearby producers, and have included beignets with honey from Marshall’s Farm and quince jam. Paul Mekis oversees an impressive wine list that delves deep into California appellations, while also exploring well-curated choices from the rest of the world. Do not miss the meticulously designed and innovative cocktail list. Service can sometimes leave room for improvement.
