THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Maison Riz Restaurant Review:
Maison Riz is an upscale alternative to the Chinese food, hot dogs and bars typically found along the Redondo Beach Pier. A wall of windows displays views of the beach and Pacific Ocean, and guests can enjoy the vistas from the large bar area or either level of the formal, white-tableclothed dining room. Five-, six- and seven-course tasting menus are available, as is a lengthy à la carte roster. The asparagus appetizer is zingy with lemon zest and a rice-cracker crust, while the spicy miso soup is dense with the flavors of shimeji mushrooms and shrimp dumplings. Red wine-braised beef cheeks are rich and tender, with an addition of soy to their sauce, and the bouillabaisse is loaded with scallops, mussels, clams, squid, prawns and a half lobster tail in a rice wine-based broth. For dessert, the black sesame cheesecake is worth a taste for its slightly nutty, yet still sweet sauce. The wine list includes well-known California classics; a few specialty cocktails are an option, too.
