Mama Terano Restaurant Review

: Atop Rolling Hills Estates, the options for fine dining are few. Mama Terano, named after the owner’s grandmother, offers rustic, approachable Italian at affordable prices. The small but charming space has an outdoor brick patio, a counter to watch the cooks at work, and a dining area in the back painted in soft beige. Start with a crispy flatbread, preferably the one topped with sausage, kalamata olives and mozzarella. Several antipasti plates are available, such as a cranberry and kale salad sprinkled with farro and pistachio or pork ribs served with a blueberry balsamic. A section of the menu is devoted entirely to meatballs made with different meats and sauces; pastas range from the usual suspects like spaghetti and linguine to the less common fusilli, which can be paired with sausage, olive and capers or with beef short rib "gravy." Mains are highlighted by the duck breast in a red wine reduction. For dessert, we suggest the zeppoles with chocolate hazelnut spread. Choose from a concise list of Italian and California wines.
