THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mardi Gras Restaurant Review:
Laid-back Toluca Lake may not be the French Quarter, but this comfortable storefront eatery with colorful Mardi gras posters, masks, beads, and zydeco music will get you in the mood for the kitchen's well-executed Louisiana favorites. You'll find excellent gumbo, jambalaya and étouffées (crawfish, 'gator, shrimp, snapper, chicken or lobster), all boldly seasoned as they should be without being unbearably hot. The long menu also offers Louisiana crab cakes, deep-fried catfish, hearty Creole seafood stews, and blackened fish. The spoon bread (a moist cornbread with whole kernels) is wonderful and the beignets are so addictive one could make a meal of them. Order a Dixie Beer with your gumbo and you'll be momentarily transported to the Big Easy.
