Alfonso's of La Jolla Restaurant Review:
This family-owned Mexican restaurant has been a La Jolla mainstay for more than 40 years. It's casual yet festive with its many inviting patios, and a good place for warm-evening margaritas. Inside, it’s light and airy, brightened with red tablecloths and Mexican hats. Alfonso’s is about finger foods like shrimp cocktail, super nachos and tacos paired with feisty cocktails. The menu includes Americanized standards like carne asada, quesadillas, chile rellenos and various enchiladas, as well as dishes aimed at the well-heeled La Jolla set (lobster burritos, steak fajitas). If serious Mexican cuisine is your goal, look elsewhere --- overall, nothing wildly excites our palate.
