Gennaro's offers understated elegance with its comfortable and quiet setting, ideal for leisurely conversation. Service, formal yet friendly, is quite good (upon your first return, you'll be treated like a regular). Pastas are consistently well-prepared, even the simplest angel hair with tomatoes and basil is memorable, and the kitchen does a particularly adept job with risotto. You can also find salmon, veal, beef and pork dishes with mostly old-fashioned, yet solid preparations. Vegetarian options include sautéed shiitake mushrooms with warm goat cheese and asparagus, and penne with roasted sweet red bell peppers and spinach in a basil, garlic and lemon cream sauce. The dessert cart features Sicilian cannoli, tiramisu and crème caramel.
