Hostaria Piave Restaurant Review:

Having previously worked as the maître d’ of Ca del Sole in North Hollywood, owner Angelo Calderan decided to open his first restaurant in the quieter neighborhood of Redondo Beach. An entirely glass front exterior and small patio allow for an airy dining room that is meant to evoke the feeling of sitting along the Piave river in Venice. The menu follows suit, with a variety of small plates, pastas and entrées. White asparagus topped with a poached egg and prosciutto is a good start, as is the seafood appetizer of clams and cockles prepared with ginger and white wine. Ravioli are simultaneously rich with Gorgonzola and light with peas and fava beans. Braised baby octopus is served whole, rustic and homey, cooked with olives and red wine and served atop a mound of soft polenta, while roasted pork tenderloin comes layered with the comforting flavors of braised leeks, cracked pepper and pancetta. Desserts skew traditional, with options such as panna cotta with blueberry compote or a fluffy almond cake with espresso whipped cream. The wine list encompasses hard-to-find, cult-driven labels from both California and Italy, with plenty of vintages available.
