Michael's Genuine Food & Drink Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Michael's Genuine Food & Drink stands out in Miami as a great neighborhood restaurant, serving budget-friendly fare that’s mostly simple, and simply topnotch. This is exactly what chef-owner Michael Schwartz intended and exactly what the city needed.
Food & Drinks: Dishes, which depend on seasonal (and preferably regional) ingredients, precision preparation and solid creativity, come in varied sizes ranging from small plates like wood oven-roasted double yolk farm egg with cave aged Gruyère to large plates such as octopus pizza or grilled spiced leg of lamb. Offerings might also include roasted snapper with corn vinaigrette. For dessert, guests may find toasted coconut cake with lavender and lemon zest or a brown butter rosemary tart with bourbon cherries and meringue cookies. Brunch boasts options like a kimchi Benedict made with a poached farm egg, crispy pork belly and kimchi hollandaise. The wine list is thoughtful and savvy, as is service. The indoor-outdoor setting is cool but not terminally hip. It's a casually artsy space and its focus is the wood-burning oven in which much of the food is cooked.
