All the classics are well executed at Morfia’s, a Southern-style barbecue joint along a barren stretch of Lincoln Boulevard. After tasting the variety of smoked meats on offer, it’s a surprise to learn owner and chef Pete Spiros is a Greek immigrant who fell in love with barbecue when he moved to Dallas as a teenager. Spiros operates the small restaurant together with his wife Morfia. Pork ribs are tender enough to fall right off the bone, drenched in a zingy, slightly sweet barbecue sauce, while Texas-style beef ribs are practically dinosaur bones, and put up a little more of a fight, but are still spiked with smoke and spice. Sloppy sandwiches include pork link, beef brisket and chicken breast, as well as hulking hamburgers. A choice of ubiquitous sides like potato salad, collard greens, baked beans and a buttery corn bread accompany most dishes. Not to be missed are Morfia’s desserts, in particular her baklava cheesecake --- a dense layer of moist cheesecake, topped with the crispy and sweet Greek dessert --- offering an intermingling of textures that is a nice finish to the meal.
