When you’re hankering for nachos and a beer after an active day in the mountains, look no further than Porcupine Pub & Grille at the mouth of Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. The half-order is huge --- and a precursor of what's to come, namely robust portions of pub fare, usually washed down by craft brews served by friendly waiters in an open, airy dining hall of hardwood floors and tables. The joint is best known for its fish ‘n’ chips, chile verde burrito and creamy chicken noodle soup, but don't overlook nightly specials like the lemon-herb chicken with zucchini and garlic mashed potatoes. Prices are right for an unpretentious meal, and on breezy days, a patio table is worth the wait, especially during weekend summer brunch.
