Montrio Restaurant Review:
Montrio is a locals' favorite, and when it's full you can hear the noise a block away. And why not, with British ex-pat Tony Baker cranking out truffled tater tots and duck popcorn --- addictive air-popped kernels tossed with salt, duck fat and duck confit and brought to the table piping hot. Try the baby kale salad: pickled fennel, spicy candied pistachios and thyme caramel put a whole new spin on this perhaps overexposed green. Scallops take side trips to South America and India, arriving on a bed of quinoa cooked in carrot juice, grated cauliflower and a coconut-curry broth. For dessert, we recommend the vanilla bean semifreddo paired with fresh strawberry granita, the lime fennel cheesecake on cute little spoons (trust us) and the chocolate malt cake with chocolate Guinness ice cream.
