: This reliable restaurant offers an extensive, appealing menu filled with all the usual northern Indian dishes, many cooked in an authentic tandoor oven inside a semi-exhibition kitchen. The bhel puri provides a nice start --- crunchy rice, lentils, noodles, onions and garbanzo beans layered with mint and tamarind sauce. Lamb chops marinated in exotic achari spices is a chef’s specialty. Some of the curry items are perhaps too tentatively spiced, but the selection --- including chicken vindaloo, lamb korma and a variety of seafood --- is impressive. We've also enjoyed the garlic naan and other breads from the tandoor, chicken tikka and assorted vegetarian options, all tastefully presented. A refreshing Indian beer with dinner or kulfi for dessert is recommended. It's a good looking place, an L.A. fusion of ancient and contemporary design elements with linen-clad tables and traditional art lining whitewashed walls. |
