THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Naya Restaurant Moderne Restaurant Review:
The arrival of Naya in Pasadena has filled a gap: Pasadena now has a stylish-modern, casual-elegant restaurant. Tables are spread under black square maple panels illuminated from behind with warm light. The open kitchen animates the back of the room, as well as the bar. The chef executes a modern cuisine---the name of the restaurant dictates as much---to the pleasure of Pasadenians. Ray Luna, who trained with Wolfgang Puck and Joaquim Splichal, prepares seared foie gras in a crispy and light tartelette, risotto with morels, and albacore tuna (which needs a little dressing) for appetizers. The loup de mer with its crispy skin and its broth is simply delicious. The crusted lamb comes with a 25-year-old balsamic vinegar and mint tapenade. A selection of market vegetables will make the vegetarians happy. Before the long list of desserts, enjoy cheese from the very respectable cart. A moderately priced wine list offers an eclectic selection, and a library list of high-flying Bordeaux is also available.
