Ocean Seafood Restaurant Review:
This sprawling Chinese eatery occupies the second floor of a modern Chinatown building. The main draw is the more than 100 varieties of dim sum, grouped by price into four categories, plus several specials. Be patient, since it takes the carts a while to traverse the massive dining rooms. Once they arrive, don’t miss those hosting shrimp and cilantro dumplings, sticky rice packets with spare ribs and sausage, ginseng chicken porridge and suckling pig. Later, after the carts are parked for the day, dishes get more exciting and more expensive --- XO scallop with spicy salt, braised squab with black mushrooms and bamboo shoots, and baked crab with ginger and green onion. The seafood in whole winter melon soup offers a beautiful and unique presentation. Cold Tsing Tao beer is a good accompaniment. While perhaps not quite as ambitious as the San Gabriel Valley establishments, Ocean Seafood is still a good option within the L.A. city limits.
