: The third Big Apple outpost of this small Japanese chain, the Village version of Ootoya is just as satisfying as the one about a half mile away. Sit at the bar in the spacious room to get extra attention from the servers. There are sushi and soupy noodle dishes in the form of sushi bowls and soba. But there’s so much Japanese culinary diversity on the menu that it’s worth getting something unfamiliar: whole steamed mackerel, for example, or thinly sliced Wagyu beef. A demi-burger, laced by a demi glaze, is very good. Dessert is best with the not-overly-sweet cheesecake. The saké list is lengthy and not overpriced. |
